Responsibilities of the Clerk
-
Clerk of the court for county and circuit judges.​
-
Receive and file all lawsuits, indictments, motions, and other related papers in all civil and criminal cases filed in circuit or county court.

Issue and process all summons & subpoenas.

Record and keep all judgments & executions. (See Judgment Roll Search here)

Issue marriage licenses and keep records for reporting to the state.

Voter registration, elections & absentee voting.
-
Records medical and other professional licenses.
-
Draw and qualify jurors for trials including mailing summons & paying jurors.
-
Collect criminal & restitution fines assessed in court.
-
Maintain all court records and accounts for all court costs, fees, fines, and assessments for circuit court, county court and youth court.

Voter Registration

You can also register to vote by visiting the Circuit Clerk’s office or the Department of Public Safety Driver's License office.

Voters must register at least 30 days prior to the election. You can register at 17 years old and vote if you turn 18 on election day.

Absentee ballots should be available 45 days prior to the election and are available at the Circuit Clerk's office.

Marriage License

To obtain a marriage license, apply in person at your local county Circuit Clerk’s office. Both parties must be present for the application.
-
Must provide one proof of age in the form of a driver's license, passport, birth certificate or other legal document which contains name and date of birth.
-
Cost is $37.00 cash or $38.00 credit card - required at the time of application.
-
There is no waiting period or blood tests in Mississippi.
-
No appointment needed - licenses are issued from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
-
Once a license is issued, it does not expire.
-
Both parties must be 21 years of age to get married in Mississippi. If an applicant is under 21, their parent/legal guardian must be present to give their permission to apply for the marriage license.
-
If applicants have previously been married and divorced or lost a spouse through death, the applicant will need to supply the date that the marriage ended.

Court Costs, Fines & Restitution

You can make payments on your case by:​

Paying in person. Can be paid with cash (must provide EXACT change) or card. There will be an extra 2.3% fee for payments made with a card.

Mailing us a certified bank check or money order. Please include your case number on the check. (You may call the Clerk’s office if you do not remember your case number) Provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope for a receipt return.

​Payments cannot be paid over the phone.

Always get a receipt and keep a good record of your payments. ​
